Course Details
This course will offer a 2 day comprehensive review of the nuts and bolts of EMDR. Learning takes place through live didactic lectures and client videos to demonstrate key concepts and techniques. Participants will review the history of EMDR and the model of adaptive information processing. We will review important concepts for establishing case conceptualization and inspiring EMDR treatment plans.
The 8 phases of EMDR will be reviewed throughout the course. Participants will learn how to assess client readiness for EMDR reprocessing and techniques for stabilization and preparation (safe/calm place, containment, resourcing). We will learn how to create an EMDR treatment plan, how to desensitize a target, how to install a positive cognition, and how to complete the body scan. Participants will also review interweaves and how to apply interweaves to blocked processing. We will discuss how to close an incomplete target, how to re-engage in incomplete target, and how to re-evaluate the work to date.
Additionally, you will learn how to implement constricted processing in the forms of EMD and EMDr, which are useful techniques for working with clinically complex scenarios. We will briefly touch on specialty populations including EMDR with children, complex dissociation, addictions and veterans.
